Community Project Development Engineer
Overview
We are currently seeking a Community Project Development Engineer to join a growing Community Solutions team. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual, offering strong potential for career progression within a well-established and expanding organisation.
The role is based at offices in Dublin Hill, Cork, with regular travel to community and project sites throughout the Republic of Ireland.

The Role
As Community Project Development Engineer, you will act as the key link between community ambitions and project delivery. Working closely with the Community Solutions Manager, you will support community groups throughout the full grant application and project development process, transforming ideas into funded, deliverable projects.
You will collaborate with Sustainable Energy Communities and support the delivery of community-focused funding initiatives, ensuring resources are efficiently and effectively directed where they are most needed.
This is a dynamic role requiring excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and proactive communication. You will manage the development and administration of projects for both new and existing community clients, while balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Project Development
- Liaise with community groups and stakeholders
- Organise quotations for energy audits and retrofit works
- Provide guidance on available financial supports and grants
- Conduct high-level site suitability assessments for energy retrofit measures
- Identify energy-saving opportunities and recommend suitable solutions
- Coordinate internal teams, subcontractors, and project managers
- Apply engineering and building services knowledge to assess, design, and develop energy efficiency solutions
- Support projects from development stage through to delivery
- Review contractor progress and quality to ensure works meet scope and standards
- Coordinate multi-trade works including insulation, plumbing, electrical, ventilation, and enabling works
- Schedule and manage subcontractors and site activities
Grants Coordination
- Provide full administrative and technical support for community grant applications
- Manage and review grant documentation to ensure compliance and completeness
- Track project applications to ensure all internal and SEAI deadlines are met
- Liaise with subcontractors and stakeholders to meet tight submission timelines
- Communicate clearly with clients on application progress
- Prepare internal schedules and progress reports
- Provide administrative support to SEAI community energy grant schemes
- Review project targets and milestones with senior management
What You Need to Succeed
Essential Requirements:
- Background in energy engineering, construction management, mechanical or electrical engineering, or building services
- Experience coordinating or managing construction or retrofit projects
- Strong attention to detail with a proactive, solution-focused approach
- Excellent IT skills, including advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and SharePoint
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining professionalism
- Strong time management and resilience in a fast-paced environment
- Results-driven mindset with strong client relationship skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant professional experience
- Full, valid Irish or EU/EEA driving licence
Desirable (Not Essential):
- Experience with grant applications, tendering, or technical administration
- Experience in an energy-related commercial environment
- Knowledge of Near Zero Energy Building (NZEB) regulations
- Familiarity with SEAI Technical Standards
